Choose a server for your small business | ITworld

The Buckster writes: As small business owners as your business grows you will become faced with the dilema of which direction you want to go in regards to getting a server.  This is a very big deal to me and the article Choose a Server for your Small Business is a start.  It gives two important aspects to choosing the direction you want to go in and it also covers the different types of servers out on the market.  All of this is very important and a must to getting an understanding in judging what your needs are.  This article will take the opportunity to expand just slightly other considerations that were not covered in this article such as security in regards to domain or non-domain setup.  Its EC&B Solutions belief that in order to gain the maximum in security that the domain is the most secure way to go.  Such things as tracking users, monitoring, and accesses plays a very important role to the overall security of your companies confidential information. As with most hardware and software you can buy different components and implement for your use however when using the domain it takes those individual components and ties them together to work dependently on / with the server to track, correct, backup, identify, and configure every component so that everything is monitored. What also makes this great is that you can integrate such applications as Digital Video Monitoring into your network.  The idea behind the Domain configuration is that security is at the top of the list. If you are not authorized to get on the system unless you are an expert at cracking this system then you will not have access.  Its also EC&B Solutions belief that integrating the NAS or Network Area Storage with the domain is also vital for the same reasons mentioned below.  As a side note, most if not all Cloud environments are setup in the configuration of the domain.  The domain configuration is what allows the big companies to share information with its clients so easily.  Even as a small business the domain setup is the best configuration and it will not cost very much for maintenance.  A very small business can get away with 8 hours a month of maintenance.  This maintenance schedule will depend heavily on what a company is doing for its business needs. This is a good read for those researching the Server environment.  Enjoy the read!
